Diamonds facts and information - Formation of Diamonds
Diamonds are formed under extremely high conditions of pressure and heat at depths ranging from 140 to 190 km in the Earth’s mantle. It is believed that the formation period occurs from 1 to 3.3 billion years. The diamonds are then brought closer to the earth’s surface via volcanic eruptions, the magma cools down into igneous rocks, also known as ‘kimberlites’ and ‘lamproites’ .
